Light The Star

Initially, I don’t think this song intended to be one.

It was something I was playing on the guitar, no words, hardly even a melody; but I liked the chord changes, and kept playing it.

Then, as always, words arrive, the first verse, intact: here we are.

I wrote them down and made it song. It was a one-verse song for quite some time, until it’s sibling arrived one day, made itself comfortable and this into a two-verse song. So I had better put it down now before the rest of the family arrives and swells it unmanageably long.

The Words:

Light the star
that star may be

to light the night
that night may see

to light the dawn
that dawn may free

the night and light
and all that be

the night and light
and all that be

Then light the soul
that soul may be

to light my eyes
that I may see

to light my tongue
that I may free

the night and light
and all that be

the night and light
and all that be
