Our God

He who senses

everything

will plead and beg

of you to bring

your festered sores

your little ones

the wars you fight

the fear that runs

like thickened blood

gone brown with shame

beneath a crown

that bears his name

you wonder at the

gun he trains

at you and yours

at what remains

It's hard to tell

it's hard to tell

have you found God

or found at last your hell

Insensate now and

dumb with pain

you tear your heart

to feed his reign

you wonder at

his swollen lips

that guide the needle

as it rips

your beauty and your

breath away

you plead for reason

where you lay

you raise you fist

to curse the sky

to beat the ground

to ask him why

It's hard to tell

it's hard to tell

have you found God

or found at last your hell

Learning as I grow

to feel the hurt within

honestly

I need to see

I need to feel

I need to know

Have I met God

have I encountered hell

You dream and feel

you hide and heal

you cheat and lie

you try and try

you roam and seek

you think and speak

you sing and praise

you spawn and raise

you maim and slaughter

love and chase

you give no quarter

as you race

I'm hurt I'm humbled

on my knees

you smile and

raise your legal fees

It's hard to tell

it's hard to tell

have we found God

or found at last our hell

Learning as I grow

to feel the love within

honestly

I need to see

I need to feel

I need to know

Have I met God

have I encountered hell

It's hard to tell

it's very hard to tell

Have we seen God

have we at last found hell

It's hard to tell

it's very hard to tell

It's hard to tell

so very hard to tell
